The Designer Abigail Jane
Artist, Fashion Designer, Textile Designer, Dress Maker, Visionary
My work begins with a drawing. Before there is a dress, there is a wildflower noticed on a road trip, a stretch of coastline, a colour in a single bloom I can’t stop thinking about.
I have lived across this country, from Sydney to Western Australia, the Northern Territory and now Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, and that landscape shapes everything I make. I have been fortunate to explore the Australian desert and its exquisite coastline, from outback colour to the marine life and coral of our reefs. I photograph it all as I go, and those images become the starting point for my textile designs.
I hand draw every motif, then position each one by hand for every dress size, allowing the artwork to fall seamlessly across the body. Each print is produced in a limited run and nothing is mass produced.
All textiles are digitally printed in Australia on quality natural fabrics—lightweight, breathable and luxurious to wear. These are pieces designed to be lived in, with simple, confident silhouettes meticulously tailored to last; made to withstand both the conditions and the test of time.
Each dress is cut and sewn in my Sunshine Coast atelier, on machines I know by feel. I work exclusively with natural fibres and draw inspiration from the clean lines of the 1960s, believing that a well-considered silhouette should allow the artwork to speak for itself.
This label has been years in the making, and there is nothing quite like seeing a design come to life on a wearable canvas.
There is no factory and no season’s worth of stock. Each piece is individually numbered and produced in small quantities, and once it is gone, it is gone.
What you wear is a drawing of this country, translated into cloth and brought to life by hand. Made to be worn, loved and kept.
With kindness and gratitude,
Abigail Jane
